Etsy and NASA have joined forces to host a Space Craft Contest to celebrate the end of the space shuttle era. Obviously, I think this is the coolest idea ever - wow, it's kind of like an allegory for Kurt and I: my love of quirky handmade trinkets combined with his space nerdery. This sort of mash-up probably won't happen very often, unless someone creates a fennec fox soccer league or a cute shift dress out of meat (oh wait, someone did that). I'm kicking myself in the pants extra hard because I didn't submit a space craft in the contest - those prizes sound awful enticing! The winner receives a $500 Etsy shopping spree, plus an all-expenses-paid trip to Florida to attend one of the final shuttle launches (Endeavor). Have you ever been to a shuttle launch? It would be so wild to see one in person, especially now since the space shuttle program is due to retire this coming February.
There are still 2 days to vote for your favorite space craft! The votes will be tallied to narrow it down to 20 contestants per category, and then a panel of NASA and Etsy judges will choose a first and second place winner. Log in to your Etsy account (or create one) to vote.
