For rainy days ...

Every chance we get, Kurt and I are enjoying the sunshine. I'd rather spend any day outside poking around our garden, eating an ice cream cone or walking the dogs. But sometimes it rains and recently, it has rained A LOT here in Louisville. On these dreary days I've turned to ...

1. Barbara Kingslover. Currently reading both Animal, Vegetable, Miracle and The Bean Trees.

2. GOOP - Gweneth Paltrow's blog/newsletter. I don't usually follow celebrities. I don't care about their personal lives or tastes -enjoying their movies or music is good enough for me. BUT there are a few exceptions, and one of them is Gweneth Paltrow. I just think she is fantastic. Her website shares some very practical and inspiring ideas and advice, but the recipes are my favorite. This week she roasts a chicken. How about that.

3. TV on the Internet. It is the best thing ever. I cancelled my cable service long ago, but thanks to a $20 adapter at Best Buy, I can hook my laptop up to the television and enjoy free TV all the live long day. I was skeptical at first, but after discovering that the Internet offers almost everything the networks offer AND in good quality, I'm now wondering why people pay for cable in the first place. I started organizing our favorite shows on Boxee (also free), so we can see everything we subscribe to on one simple guide. On TV nights, we like to stack every blanket in the house on the living room floor, snuggle with the dogs and have smoothies and popcorn. We all usually fall asleep in the pallet with the TV on.

4. French press coffee. I like coffee, but as an occasional drinker, I could not bring myself to own another kitchen appliance that would hog up all of my precious counter space. A whole machine just for a drink? A 3 cup french press seemed like less of a commitment ... for some reason, I rationalized that this small man-powered contraption meant that coffee would still remain an occasional indulgence. Wrong. I am now an addict! I want coffee every morning and especially on rainy mornings. We bought this Bodum one, and I swear coffee is more delicious this way.
